Memorial Service Marks One Year

As we pause to remember all those affected by the tragedy of April 6, 2018, we extend our thoughts and prayers to the families, the citizens of Humboldt and the Humboldt Broncos Hockey Club; we stand with our hockey family in tribute to you all.

It is with our deepest sorrow and grief that the Humboldt Broncos Alumni Association recognizes the passing of Mr. Donn Clark (March 4, 1962 to March 2, 2019).
“Donny” spent 7 years with our Broncos’ organization, turning young hockey players into respectful and hard working men. His passion and love for his players and this great game will not be forgotten. Our hearts are with Donn Clark’s family always. Al Novakowski commented: “Heaven is a better place today because Coach Clark is running Practice.”

POSTPONED - Humboldt Broncos Alumni take on Hockey Legends

On Saturday March 9 at 3pm, the Alumni Association will ice a team to take on the NHL Legends. The Rink of Dreams event will be at the Elgar Petersen Arena in Humboldt. The game is the centrepiece of a weekend celebration of hockey in Humboldt. First things first: we need to recruit a team! Do you want to wear the green and gold one more time?

The game is the centrepiece of a weekend celebration of hockey in Humboldt, along with a Celebrity Sportsman Dinner in support of the Humboldt Broncos and Humboldt Minor Hockey Association. Team members must be former Humboldt Broncos players, from any era – we hope to ice a team that represents 48 years of hockey. You must also join the Alumni Association to be eligible to play – this is a great opener for the Association.

If you want to play on March 9, send an email asap. Subject line is “I want to play, coach.”

JOIN ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

Include the year(s) you played for the Broncos, your position, and where you live now. We want to ice as many players as possible, and the roster will be limited. The Alumni Association’s event committee will select the team.

If you are not playing: we need you in the stands! Get your friends, teammates, and family together, and come support the team (or cheer for the NHL Legends if you must). Rekindle relationships and have a blast. Game tickets are on sale beginning Wednesday, January 23 at www.humboldtbroncos.com.

We’ve been asked to come back to Humboldt, where we all grew up, and be part of these events. However you participate, we hope to meet you there.

Alumni Jamie Ficko and 'Hockey Gives Blood' Raising Awareness for Stem Cell Donation.

Jamie is 37 years old and is from Saskatoon SK. He currently lives in Humboldt SK, is married to Cynthia Ficko (Rath) and they have 3 children, Vosko (7), Aunika (5) and Bexley (2). Jamie is a Humboldt Broncos Alumni and played with the team from 2000-2002. Jamie works for SaskEnergy in Humboldt as their Operations Lead.

On October 11th, 2018 Jamie was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He was admitted to hospital that same day to start immune system booster treatments for his chemotherapy treatment which started Oct. 15th. After commencing the ‘Dana Farber Protocol’, a planned 4-Phase, two and half year chemotherapy program which included radiation treatment on the central nervous system, Jamie started to develop rashes and swelling to his lymph nodes in the 9th week. On January 16th, 2019 it was confirmed that Jamie’s cancer had returned.

Hockey Gives Blood

Jamie is now in the Saskatoon Royal University Hospital preparing to undergo a new chemotherapy mix aimed to drive the cancer into remission and enable him to undergo a stem cell infusion. Jamie’s parents have been selected as his nearest match, at 50%, and will be the donors for this infusion. Jamie has been told finding a 100% match will be difficult given his rare stem cell type.

All of Jamie’s family and friends are working hard to raise awareness of the importance of becoming a stem cell donor in support of Jamie and all those who find themselves undergoing these same battles of trying to find a perfect match.

On behalf of Jamie, his immediate and extended family, and all his many friends – we sincerely thank Hockey Gives Blood for raising awareness for Jamie, his wife Cyndi and their three children.

Humboldt Broncos 1972-73 Reunion

The Humboldt Bronco Alumni Association is pleased to report that in conjunction with the Season Home Opener of the Humboldt Broncos 2018-19 Season that the 1972-73 SAJHL Championship Humboldt Broncos hosted a 45 Year Reunion on September 11, 2018 in Humboldt.

The 1972-73 Broncos finished the season behind the Prince Albert Raiders in the final standings but after taking out the Melville Millionaires in the first round they took out their nemesis to the north in the second round and then hoisted the SAJHL championship trophy in Humboldt taking out the Estevan Bruins in the championship final.

The 1972-73 Broncos took on the Portage La Prairie Terriers in one of the most physical and violent junior hockey series ever. Consequently the Broncos withdrew from the series.

The Broncos were lead by Terry “Doc” Henning as Coach, Lee Tost as Assistant Coach and the late Dr. Gerry Rooney as General Manager with of course the young, and always smiling Elgar Peterson.

Newly-Formed Alumni Association Endorsed By Humboldt Broncos

The newly-formed Humboldt Broncos Alumni Association (HBAA) is pleased to announce it has been endorsed by the board of directors of the Humboldt Broncos’ hockey club.

Founded by Bronco alumni spanning a number of different eras, the HBAA will promote the general welfare of the Humboldt Broncos hockey club, and foster the engagement of all alumni and friends of the organization amassed over the 48-year history of Broncos hockey.

Alumni to support initiatives that build on Broncos' hockey excellence.

The Alumni Association is an autonomous entity, independent of the Humboldt Broncos, though the two will enjoy a symbiotic relationship. Its intent will be to support initiatives that build on Broncos' hockey excellence in its commitment to its players, team and community, with more specific details to be disclosed in due course. Funds raised by the HBAA will be independently managed by a board of directors comprised of representatives from the Alumni Association, the Humboldt Broncos, independent directors, and representatives from the community of Humboldt.

“The Humboldt Broncos Alumni Association is honored and excited to be working with the Bronco organization, former Broncos and the community of Humboldt,” said Bob Bachynski, managing director of the HBAA. “We believe its inception will further solidify the special bond we all have as part of the Bronco family.”

“The Humboldt Broncos are looking forward to working with the Humboldt Broncos Alumni Association with our aligned vision and goals,” said Kevin Garinger, president of the Humboldt Broncos. “Our club’s endorsement of this organization recognizes the lifelong relationships formed by Broncos players and supporters, many of which have been rekindled in light of the recent tragedy impacting our club.”

The HBAA wants as many former Broncos as possible to play a major role in the long-term support of their alma mater. Therefore, all former players, coaches, staff, and board members are invited to participate and play a vital role in its long-term facilitation.
